It may not be a natural setting, but this historic pool’s surroundings are truly breathtaking and the relaxing, mellow vibe floating about is enough to make you go “Aaaahhhh"".
Completed in 1935 and completely restored in 1995, the Banff Upper Hot Springs bubble with warm water running from far underneath Banff’s Sulphur Mountain to ease your aching muscles. The high temperature is 47.3 degrees Celsius (117.14 Fahrenheit). Located at the end of Mountain Road, 2.5 kilometres (1.5 miles) from Banff Avenue, the place is packed on most weekends and you may find yourself sharing lap-space with a friend. Instead, go on a winter evening after skiing. There’s also a full service spa, a gift shop and café. There are lockers and showers. The best part is renting circa 1920s swimsuits if you really want to step back in time. The springs are open year-round.
Also be sure to visit the nearby Banff Cave and Basin, the Banff National Park historic site that marks the original hot spring that was the birthplace of Canada's National Park system.
