Artists have long been drawn to the area. In the early 1900s, when the Bow Valley was first settled, the world-famous Banff Centre was conceived as a retreat for wearied artists seeking a respite from the rest of the world, to share ideas with one another and to recharge their creative batteries. Since then, the Rockies have produced some of Canada’s best artists. Neil Patterson, a landscape painter and the only Canadian to ever receive the title of Master Artist from the Oil Painters of America, produces and shows some of his finest pieces right here in our backyard. So if you look out the window and feel charged-up to release your own personal Picasso, or if the sparkling autumn morning makes you start thinking in verse like Robert Frost, give us a call! Writing
Feeling verbose? The Rockies offer a cornucopia of literary delights. The Writers Guild of Alberta is an internationally renowned group that comes to Banff every year for a week-long motivational workshop in which space is limited, so call early if you’re interested. The Banff Centre’s mountain culture program presents a Mountain Book Festival celebrating authors who use the majestic mountain landscape as their inspiration. WordFest happens here in autumn in 2003 Douglas Coupland (Generation X fame) was the keynote speaker. Call ZeeLINX for dates and bookings. Photography
Imagine yourself out on a nature walk in one of our parks, surrounded by grizzly, moose and deer while you peacefully shoot them. With a camera of course! Music
Don’t wanna work? Wanna bang on the drum all day? We can find you the drums, the drummer, or the band! Let us know the kind of music you yearn to learn or listen to, and we’ll provide the perfect venue. From “open mike nights” where you can strut your stuff for all to see (great if you’re only here one week a year), to intimate jazz performances (at your own home if you like), relax while we do the planning.

If you’d like your inspired juices to flow in a group setting, there are numerous creative retreats sprinkled throughout the area – we’ll make sure that you are put in the group and setting that’s perfect for you.
