Whether you’ve got your heart set on a swingin’ big band soiree, a kickin’ country carousal or a moody-blues blowout, the party’s only as good as the performers. Often taken for granted, music is key for setting the tone of any event and directly relates to the energy and atmosphere of a room. A keynote speaker will likely have a hard time capturing the complete attention of a banquet hall after a bout of rock ‘n roll mayhem, but may take to the podium only to discover his audience half asleep if preceded by a sleepy jazz set. ZeeLINX will assist with your music selection, ensuring your keynote stays sharp and bad ideas fall flat. Musical misadventures? Not with these great choices! Rock & Pop Top 40
For those of you who weren’t that popular in high school and never got invited to parties, this might be your big chance to do a little ‘rocking out’. If you know the words by heart and it’s been on the radio, chances are it’ll be covered here. If you’re really keen to make up for lost time, you might try asking the cute new mail clerk to dance.
Classical Group
For some people, ‘class’ is a structured, educational hour of hell in which nothing makes sense, including how to breathe. These people are generally not well-liked by the type of people who consider ‘class’ to be something exclusive to their own kind. Let’s hope a little ‘classical’ music can bring the two sides together for a merry night of cocktails and cock fights.
Classical Guitarist
No, this is not some aging banger playing massacred renditions of ZZ Top and White Snake songs. We’re talking refinement here. In fact, the Bow Valley is home to a small handful of internationally acclaimed guitarists, such as John Goulart who enjoys a reputation for being one of Canada’s finest. When they’re this talented, just one is enough.
Jazz
The great thing about jazz is that it’s one of the only genres of music where shouting, stomping and bobbing your head during a performance is acceptable. Assuming the likelihood your boss will agree to a death-metal concert after Saturday night’s banquet is slim, we recommend a freshly showered trio or quartet to provide the kicks instead. Just make sure the ‘kick’ isn’t your boot making contact with the boss’s head while in the mosh-pit.
Bluegrass Band
A genre full of men with constant sorrow. Huh? We’re not sure either, but it seems to be a big hit these days. So jump into those filthy denim overalls and put a little grease on your two front teeth, ‘cause the banjo playin’s as plucky as yesterday’s wild turkey. Yee-haw!
Operettas
Comical and light, operettas are not what you’d expect. Although they still include rather robust individuals with excellent vocal abilities, they lack the pomp and circumstance of their big-stage counterparts, and are intended to entertain instead of induce irreversible comatose states. Even the toughest critic is likely to shed a tear or two – from laughing, not crying.
Barbershop Quartet
Although seldom the focus of a movie, these characters are often popping up in odd places, say, from behind a ridiculously skinny lamppost, to sing songs about the main character, who oddly enough never notices four funny-looking guys just metres away in red and white-striped jackets and ‘carnie’ hats, making musical jokes at his or her expense. This, of course, is great entertainment for anyone who’s not the butt of the joke.
Country Band
There ain’t no need to shake in yer new croc skin boots partner, ‘cause country two steppin’s as easy as mama’s humble berry pie. You jus’ take yer partner by the waist, see, and twirl ‘em round an’ round. An’ remember, a real gentleman never spits on the dance floor.
Flamenco Artists
Consisting of three parts – Cante, the song, Baile, the dance, and Guitarra, the guitar playing – flamenco is exotic and unfamiliar to most. Those who’ve found themselves in the heated presence of authentic flamenco artists know it’s not simply entertainment, but a masterful physical artistry of deep emotions, storytelling and romance. If it’s something extraordinary you seek, this is it.
Mexican Mariachi
Originating in and around the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, modern mariachi ensembles are composed of two groups of instruments: The melody group includes violins and trumpets, the harmony group consists of vihuela, guitar, guitarrón and occasionally harp. Festive, upbeat and very interactive, mariachi bands can be a great mood-setter for picnics and other outdoor activities.
